The 3-Fold Union That Will Deceive the Whole World
"And I saw 3 unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and to the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty." Rev 16:13,14
Notice that there are 3 world powers which will be gathered together by demons to "that great day of God Almighty." What takes place on this 'great day'? Verse 16 says "And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armaggedon." The demons are gathering the world to the Battle of Armageddon.
So here we have 3 world powers, represented as:
the dragon the beast, and the false prophet
Because my purpose in this article is to focus on the meaning of the "3 unclean spirits like frogs", I will only deal with the characteristics of the 3 world powers, rather than who they are - except for the dragon.
The Dragon
The dragon is relatively easy to identify. In Rev. chapter 12 the dragon is identified as Satan in verses 3,4 and 9. And the way he works as a world power is through paganism.
Since the beginning of time Satan has worked through the false religion system of paganisim to try to thwart God's plans. It was a pagan empire (Rome) through which Jesus was crucified. And paganism is still alive and well today - it's infiltrated Christianity itself with a variety of false doctrines and practices, and it's enjoying ever-growing popularity today through Wicca and the New Age.
The New Age and witchcraft are glamorized by the entertainment industry, and New Age practices can be found in business, sports, the educational system, politics, healthcare, medicine, psychology and more. And they are being used by demons and will continue to be used by them in this 3-fold gathering which leads to Armaggedon.
The Beast
A 'beast' in prophecy is a political power ( see Dan 7:17,23), and in this case it's not only practicing politics, but it's commanding adherence to it's system of worship (see Rev 13:8). So it's a combined power of church and state, which is NEVER a good combination. They ALWAYS end up as a persecuting power. And in this case it's no different. (Rev 13:15-17).
The False Prophet
The false prophet is depicted in Rev 13:11-17 as the beast (political power) who works in conjunction with the 'first beast' (church-state power). And, as we can easily see, it has enough clout to command and enforce worship world-wide, under penalty of death to those who refuse to bow down to their false system of worship which exalts itself against and opposes God. (NOTE: How many political powers are there on the earth today who could exercise the kind of power it would take to be able to enforce a world-wide death decree?)
Frogs & Plagues
Remember the plagues God brought upon Egypt through Moses, when Pharaoh wouldn't let His people go?
Notice the '3 unclean spirits like frogs' in Revelation arrive on the scene during plagues which God is again pouring out upon His enemies. The spirits like frogs appear during the 6th plague, the one which occurs just prior to the 2nd coming of Jesus (see Rev 16:15-17).
To understand these 3 "frog-like" spirits it would be wise to remember the plagues upon ancient Egypt. A key issue God was addressing with the plagues was to show the Egyptians how false and impotent the gods they were worshipping were, with the hope of converting as many of them as He could while winning the release of His chosen people. If you'll remember, one of the plagues involved FROGS. Because the Egyptians worshipped frogs.
A quick study of the Egyptian gods is very revealling. First, the frog symbol is the most ancient of the Egyptian deities, meaning the frog was more prominent in their worship, and therefore more influential.
The Frog 'Gods' of Egypt
A chief cosmic deity was Hiquest, who was one of the chief cosmic gods connected with creation. Four other primeval gods were Heh, Kak, Nau & Amen, who were each depicted with frogs heads, from the cosmic waters of space out of which all things arose in the beginning. Here's where it gets interesting.
Frog gods and goddesses were associated with the beginning or formation of the world, with the symbol of the frog itself being resurrection, or renewed birth, (i.e. symbols of immortality).
Notice the 3 world views the frog represented to the Egyptians: creation -- resurrection -- and new birth.
The form 'creation' took is more accurately described today as evolution. The arising of the primeval gods out of the cosmic waters of space. Their beginning (creation) was understood to have been derived more from a process of nature, than from being acted upon externally by a Soverign Creator God who was independent of and separate from the creation.
Resurrection is depicted because the frog comes to life after being buried for years under rocks or in old walls.
Finally, renewed birth, in combination with the evolutionary process, could easily be thought of as reincarnation.
How The 3 Unclean Frogs Deceive
It's interesting that Revelation 16 depicts 3 earthly powers being gathered together by 3 unclean frogs like spirits coming out of the mouths of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet.
Here we're given a warning about spiritualism, which will unite this 3-fold power against the people of God at the end of time. They deceive by coming out of the mouths of this 3-fold power. And what is it that's coming out of their mouths? None other than 3 dominant world views which have combined to take the God of creation almost completely out of the picture in the minds of a large portion of the world's population. The 3 world views of: evolution ... resurrection ... and rebirth (reincarnation).
According to the prophecy spirits of demons (via spiritualism) will try to unite the entire world against the people of God through the unified teaching of the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. Through the false doctrines of evolution-immortality (for atheists & secularists), resurrection (Sunday worship) - (Christians, Jews and Muslims will accept the teaching of miracle working spirits who advocate a common day of worship - the day of the sun), and reincarnation (New Age and eastern religions).
These major world views will be enough to unite all the peoples and religions of the world into one universal power ruled by none other than Satan himself. But - they will be resisted by a faithful few, who will stand upon the Word of God and refuse to unite in worship of this false worker of miracles who opposes and exalts himself against God.
God Alone Has Immortality
The pagan belief of the immortality of the soul is the 'golden key' which unlocks the door to spiritualism. The Bible says we are not alone. It says the Christian is at war against "principlaities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places." Eph 6:12.
These are fallen angels the above text refers to, the demons referred to in Revelation 16:16, which "gather them together to the place called in Hebrew Armaggedon" -- but -- were it not for the false (pagan) belief of the immortality of the soul, spiritualism as a deception wouldn't even be possible!
The Bible says in as clear a language as possible that ONLY GOD has immortality. (see 1 Tim 6:16; 1 Thess 4:16,17; Ps 146:4; Ps 115:17; Eccl 9:5; Rom 6:23). The Christian should accept no other testimony than that of the Word of God.
To protect His people from deception God has given ample warning against the practices of spiritualism and communication with the dead. (see Lev 19:31; Lev 20:27; Deut 18:10,11; 1 Sam 20:3; Isa 8:19,20; Isa 47:13,14; Jer 27:9; Mal 3:5; Rev 21:8 and Rev 22:15).
The Bible -- and the Bible only -- is our only safeguard. Only a decision to stand on the authority of the Word of God will enable us to make it through the great deception which Satan has planned before Jesus comes. He wants the worlds worship, and he'll try to get it through deception first, and then by force at the end. We disregard God's warnings to our own peril.
